Parent-Implemented Intervention (PII) is the parent delivery of an intervention to their child that promotes their social communication or other skills or decreases their behavior that interferes with their safety or learning.

Reinforcers increase the likelihood that the target skill/behavior will be used again in the future. Determine with the family a variety of activities and materials that are motivating to the learner on the spectrum, which lead to a decrease in behaviors interfering with their learning or safety.

Discuss family routines and activities that would be good times to implement the EBP. PIIs should be implemented in relevant contexts and across routines and activities in which the family already engages.

Once child and parent strengths and areas of need are determined, discuss with the parent to make sure that the parent agrees that you have determined appropriate and accurate child and family strengths and areas of need.

Once area of need is determined and routines identified, select the specific child behavior or skill (goal) to target and which EBP to utilize.
