Available Supplemental Modules

Several evidence-based practices identified in the previous review (Wong et al., 2014) were recategorized or reclassified in the most recent review by the National Clearinghouse on Autism Evidence & Practice (see Steinbrenner et al., 2020, p. 30 for details). The four modules below will remain available for AFIRM users as supplemental materials.

Picture Exchange Communication System

By using PECS^(R), the learner with ASD will develop a system of communication and promote speech development and production.

Structured Play Groups

Structured play groups are small group activities with a defined area, activity, theme, and roles with typically developing peers and an adult scaffolding as needed to support the learner with ASD's performance.
